Overview of Cassa Integrazione, Dismissals and Unemployment - N° 11 2013
Authorized hours of CIG (Area of Milan), CIG Ordinary (Assolombarda companies) and Unemployment (Italy and other countries).
In 2013 in Italy the authorized hours of Cassa Integrazione Guadagni were more than one billion, substantially in line with 2012 (-1.4%). The amount of hours effectively used were almost half of the total (the so called “tiraggio” was 49.56% of the total authorized amount, in the period January-October 2013, last available data).
On the contrary, the authorized hours of CIG increased by 19% in 2013 in the Area of Milan as compared with 2012, mainly due to Ordinaria and Straordinaria CIG.
Focusing on December 2013, in the Area of Milan the authorized hours doubled as compare with December 2012.
In December 2013 CIG Ordinaria of Assolombarda companies also started to increase again. Their hours corresponded to less than one-third of the total amount of the Area of Milan.
Unemployment is more and more alarming. Indeed, the Italian unemployment rate grew to 12.7% in November 2013 (from 12.5% of October), while in the Euro Area has been static at 12.1% since April 2013. In the USA the rate went down to 7% from 7.3%.
In particular, the Italian youth unemployment rate (41.6%) is higher than the Euro Area average (24.2%) and especially than the German rate (7.6%).
